Depression and custody issues

People may become depressed for countless reasons, but the divorce process can be especially tough from an emotional point of view. After their marriage comes to an end, people may become depressed because of the various ways in which their lives change, and the divorce process can be incredibly stressful and emotionally taxing. However, depression can be particularly problematic when it comes to disputes over child custody. Not only can the custody process result in negative emotions, but these emotions may even get in the way of a parent’s ability to have custody of their child.

If a parent is struggling with a great deal of depression, this may prompt the court to award custody to the child’s other parent. If you are depressed and are in the middle of a custody dispute, it is imperative to handle your feelings appropriately and prevent these challenges from interfering with your ability to raise your child. On the other hand, if your child’s other parent is emotionally unstable and you are concerned about their parenting abilities, you may need to bring this up in the courtroom to ensure that your child’s best interests are protected.

There are many different issues to consider when it comes to child custody disputes, and we understand how difficult the entire process can be. It is especially important for parents to understand their options and handle divorce matters correctly.
